QuaranTune 6.0 - Feb 3-6, 2022

Virtual dulcimer festival featuring over 50 of your favorite dulcimer instructors and performers with workshops, concerts, jamming, and more. Classes for all levels of mountain dulcimer, hammered dulcimer, autoharp, pennywhistle, ukulele, bowed psaltry, and more - all from the safety and convenience of your own home! Go to virtualdulcimerfest.com to register.

Here are links to the registration pages for some of the classes I’ll be offering this time around:

Friday Session 1 - “Waltz-I-Fied Fiddle Tunes” - many fiddle tunes have melodies that are beautiful when slowed down into waltzes or aires. We’ll learn a number of examples, as well as some techniques you can apply to your own favorite fiddle tunes.

Friday Session 6 - “Sum of the Parts: Dulcimer Ensemble Music” - we’ll work on some multi-part ensemble arrangements while demonstrating that “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”!

Saturday Session 1 - “Using the Moving Bass Line” - learn a simple chord substitution technique you can use to “dress up” many of the tunes you already play.

Saturday Session 3 - “Creating Tab from Standard Notation Using TablEdit” - if you already have a basic understanding of how to use the TablEdit computer application, this class will show you how you can use it as an aid to take standard music notation, in any key, and convert it into chord/melody style dulcimer tab.

Saturday Session 5 - “Magic of the 1+ Fret” - in this class, you’ll learn how to actually get some use out of that handy little extra fret that many mountain dulcimer players have had added to their instruments.
