This month's Free
Tablature is
Traditional Austrian Christmas Carol
|

I'm a great believer in starting to practice Christmas music as early as possible. In the past, I usually didn't think about practicing it until after Thanksgiving .... and then would get those tunes back under my fingers about the middle of February!
So, to encourage everyone to "start your Christmas practicing early", this month's tab is a 4-part arrangement of the traditional Austrian/German carol "Still, Still, Still".
There have been several different melodies associated with this carol. The one presented here, which is probably the most well-known one these days, is known simply as the "Salzburg Melody", which was first published in 1819. A set of English lyrics were written by Oscar Hardwig, and published in the Wartburg Hymnal in 1918.
The simplicity of the melody is what makes it so beautiful and compelling. The 4-part arrangement included here is based on a version I heard our church hand-bell choir perform one time. So find 3 more dulcimer players and have fun.
Here's a link to a YouTube video of an interesting version that combines
"Still Still Still" with "Silent Night".Enjoy!
--Tull
Still, still, still
One can hear the falling snow.
For all is hushed,
The world is sleeping,
Holy Star its vigil keeping.
Still, still, still,
One can hear the falling snow.
Sleep, sleep, sleep,
'Tis the eve of our Saviour's birth.
The night is peaceful all around you,
Close your eyes,
Let sleep surround you.
Sleep, sleep, sleep
'Tis the eve of our Saviour's birth.
Dream, dream, dream,
Of the joyous day to come.
While guardian angels without number
Watch you as you sweetly slumber.
Dream, dream, dream,
Of the joyous day to come
