This month's free tab is 2-part arrangement of a traditional French dance tune called "Mazurka de Lapleau".  A mazurka is a type of waltz that originated in Poland in the late 1500's, and became popular in various other European high society cultures in the late 1700's, especially France, and also the Scandinavian countries (Sweden, Norway, and Denmark).  Lapleau refers to a small village in the French province of Correze, in the south central part of the country.

The tune has become a popular waltz among classical and old-time musicians alike, and has been recorded by everyone from Norman Blake to Andres Segovia.

This arrangement is based on a version arranged by my good friend Guy George, who has included it in the 3rd volume of his "Band in a Book" series, entitled "Tunes from Around the World".

I've provided both "lead" (dulcimer 1) and "backup/harmony" (dulcimer 2) parts, but since it has such a simple backup chord progression (just 2 chords - D and A), it's a great tune to practice improvisation techniques.  Start by finding those backup chords in different positions of the fret board, and use that as a jumping off point.

Enjoy!  Have a safe and happy July 4th holiday (and a happy Bastille Day as well!  ;-)  )
